Flames in the Fire

I've travelled round from town to town, lookin for a job
Sometimes up and sometimes down, always with the mob
I did this here I did that there, the pay cheques trickled in
I made some friends and left again, and never had a win

Chorus:
And a thing that I've seen, everywhere I've been
The flames in the fire look the same

There was a time back in the prime, always wanting more
Searching, asking, finding out, what's behind the door
I had a cake but wanted some, enough was short of filling
But eat as much I wanted more, the hunger always willing

Woke up this morning feeling fine, and looked around the bed
The walls were green the roof was sky, I thought that I was dead
But it was just another room, another time and place
So I took the strangely scented soap, and washed my same old face
